Dissociative Identity Disorder (Multiple Personality Disorder)
DISSOCIATIVE IDENTITY DISORDER?Dissociative Identity disorder (DID) is a rare disorder in which several personalities with distinct and in some cases alternate memories and functioning patterns apparently exist in one individual. The person may also experiences memory loss between personalities that is too out of the ordinary to be explained by normal forgetfulness. This disorder is under the category of dissociative disorders as a person with this will disconnect from their thoughts, feelings, memories or even sense of identity.[1]
affecting teens? This disorder does not have much record with teens but is believed to be triggered by physical or sexual abuse in childhood. Young children have a shown ability to dissociate themselves from situation and it is believed that those who are abused may learn to use dissociation as a defence. The child is believed to slip into a state of mind in which the abuse is not really occurring to him or her, but to another personalty that they believe is somebody else.[2]

Symptoms
Statistics
The frequency of articles related to Dissociative Identity Disorder or Multiple Personality Disorder has risen dramatically since 1988. This rise more than likely follows a rise in knowledge and diagnosis of people with DID (unable to find data). The general cause is childhood trauma and/or neglect which leads to these alter egos meaning that the age that it is noticed is around 6 to 8.[3]

Treatment
Psychotherapy and Hypnotherapy are generally the best combination for treatment as the psychotherapist will try to understand each alter ego and calm the more destructive ones. Then hypnotherapy will also try to calm and possibly remove some of the more destructive personalities and help the patient unite them into one manageable identity.[4]
