This video was entered in the HeadsUp Video Campaign. This was made in October 2011 and was short-listed by HeadsUp. It gives a great perspective on anxiety and helps promote speaking up to anyone from a friend to a doctor.[1]

This is sheds a new light on depression for those who know very little about it. Stigma associated with mental illness now

Today the stigma of mental illness is more often related to the context of the illness as compared to the physical appearance, stigma remains a powerful negative attribute in all social links. Today the world is cluttered with anti-stigma campaigns. They wish to fight stigma because it is a growing problem as it makes people feel inferior and useless.[2]

In the 2011 survey, less mental illness stigma was perceived by respondents than in the previous surveys in 2001 and 1990. In the eyes of the German public, the devaluation and rejection of people with mental illness has substantially decreased since 1990.

Data from German surveys shows that over the decades negative stigma towards Mental Illness has steaadily declined.[2]

St helena and stigma
Statistically, 25% of the students at St Helena could suffer from a Mental Illness in their life time. As a school, we need to raise awareness about this issue as it could affect some of us.
If we raise more awareness about Mental Illness and Mental Health in St Helena, we can work towards getting rid of stereotypes and lowering stigma. Try and help in the school and if you see someone using a stereotype or shunning someone who currently has a mental illness or for any reason. Report it. Make the school a better place and void stigma at St Helena.[3] |
